Inauguration of Health Education and Promotion Room for the Management of NCDs at MFMC Prishtina

On April 24, 2025, The Health Directorate of the Municipality of Prishtina, together with the Main Family Medicine Center (MFMC), officially inaugurated the Health Education and Promotion Room for the management of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs). This initiative marks a significant step forward in implementing essential interventions aimed at improving the prevention and management of chronic conditions in the community.

The development of this dedicated space has been supported by the Accessible Quality Healthcare (AQH) project, funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), highlighting the importance of continued investment in public health education and preventive care.

Speaking at the inauguration, Dr. Izet Sadiku, Director of the Health Directorate of the Municipality of Prishtina, emphasized the significance of this new space:

“I am very pleased to be here today for an initiative of great importance to the public health of our citizens- we are opening the Health Education and Promotion Room, a space dedicated to managing non-communicable diseases (NCD). This room is not just a physical area, it is a center of knowledge, encouragement, and support for every individual who wants to improve their life.”

Designed to serve as a welcoming and informative hub, the Health Education and Promotion Room will support citizens of Prishtina living with NCDs such as diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular diseases, and asthma. It will provide ongoing advice, health education, and motivational support to help individuals better manage their conditions and improve their quality of life.

Dr. Bujar Gashi, Director of the MFMC in Prishtina, stated that the inauguration marks a milestone in strengthening primary healthcare.

This initiative contributes to improving the quality of services for the citizens and strengthening the role of Family Medicine teams, and nurses in particular, with the patient as the central figure,” he emphasized.

Moreover, he also expressed commitment to expanding such spaces to other Family Medicine Centers by investing in infrastructure and professional development to bring services closer to the community.

This intervention is part of a broader strategy to strengthen primary healthcare services and promote greater community engagement in managing chronic diseases, ensuring that patients are empowered, not just treated. The inauguration also reflects the joint commitment of local institutions and international partners to foster a healthier future for all citizens of Prishtina.

To date, the AQH project, within the scale up process, coordinated by the Ministry of Health, has supported the establishment of 37 Health Education and Promotion Rooms across 27 municipalities, including Vushtrri, Lipjan, Rahovec, Mitrovicë, Drenas, Klinë, Kamenicë, Skenderaj, Fushë Kosovë, Gjakovë, Prishtinë, Gjilan, Ferizaj, Vitia, Hani i Elezit, Kaçanik, Suharekë, Prizren, Istog, Pejë, Deçan, Junik, Malishevë, Obiliq, Ranillug, and Graçanicë.
