World Family Doctor Day marked for the first time in Kosovo

For the first time, Kosovo marked the World Family Doctor Day to recognize the crucial role of primary care teams in the delivery of comprehensive and continuing healthcare to all citizens. Supported by AQH Project, the Ministry of Health organized a meeting with representatives from Main Family Medicine Centers, Kosovo Doctors Chamber, and family doctors, highlighting the contribution of family doctors on strengthening the health systems and remembering all the doctors who lost their lives due to COVID-19 pandemic.

On this occasion, Arsim Berisha, Deputy Minister of Health stated that World Family Doctor Day is a special day to recognize the important role of the family doctors in delivering comprehensive and continuing healthcare for all patients.

’21 years have passed since the beginning of the concept of Family Medicine in Kosovo, a concept that has delivered the health services of the family doctors closer to our citizens, but at the same time has proven the values of family medicine as a first line service in healthcare’, said Berisha during the meeting.

Deputy Team Leader of AQH Project Qamile Ramadani highlighted the contribution of the project funded by Swiss Agency Development and Cooperation and implemented by Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute (Swiss TPH) to the Primary Health Care in Kosovo. She said that AQH Project team is determined to help primary health care providers to implement the Family Medicine concept as good as possible.

World Family Doctor Day was first declared by WONCA in 2010 and this year’s theme is “Building the Future with Family Doctors”. In line with the theme, AQH Project in close cooperation with the Ministry of Health launched a TV Video campaign.
